Stand Down to Remember

California fire service unites for California Firefighters Memorial Safety Stand Down

A united fire service – labor and management – is asking California firefighters and their families to take some time this September 30th to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

In a joint letter to all fire departments and local union presidents, CPF President Lou Paulson and California Fire Chiefs Assn. President Michael DuRee have called for a California Firefighters Memorial Safety Stand Down to coincide with the Memorial Ceremony September 30th.

“The Memorial Ceremony embodies the spirit of duty, honor and sacrifice at the heart of our profession,” said Paulson. “It also provides us an opportunity to reflect on the hazards that we face on the job every day.”

Firefighters are encouraged to attend the ceremony in person as part of the “uniformed procession”. If you’re not able to attend in person, the leaders urge all fire stations to “stand down” from 11:30am to 1:00pm on the 30thto view the ceremony via online video stream.

Details on the ceremony and video streaming can be found at cafirefoundation.org/memorial.
